Laser hair removal works by sending a laser beam to a group of hair follicles with enough energy to destroy the root without harming the surrounding skin. This process is called selective photothermolysis. It is selective because it targets only the hair and not skin. The surrounding skin is cooled by the cooling system available to our laser.
The laser beam is the root through the melanin, a substance found in skin and hair, the darker hair is more melanin you have. The laser does not work in people with red hair, white or gray. The laser light is also attracted to the melanin in the skin, so that people tan or those of phototype VI skin are most at risk for discoloration of skin pigment and can cause other side effects.
